Seniors Nate Noyes (Silver Lake, N.H.), Toby Peterson (Lynnfield, Mass.), Joe Zangari (Cedarhurst, N.Y.), and Joe Boccaccio (East Hartford, Conn.) completed their four-year careers this past weekend as Quinnipiac took two-of-three games from St. Francis (N.Y.). Despite finishing with a final 16-21 record in its second season of Division I play, Quinnipiac received tremendous offensive performances from this senior quartet. Pitching-wise, two seniors Chris Pinto (Worcester, Mass.) and Pat Lynch (Ansonia, Conn.) have also etched their names in the Quinnipiac record book. A centerfielder, Noyes led the team in home runs (10), runs scored (48), hits (57), total bases (103), doubles (16), and slugging percentage(.665). He was second in hitting (.368), behind junior Tim Mangano (East Meadow, N.Y.), who hit .378. Noyes had at least one hit in 32 of the Braves' 37 games in 2000, including 17 multiple-hit contests. His 16 doubles tied Ron Royster (1990) for a Quinnipiac season record. His 57 hits were the fourth-best season total in school history, and his 48 runs scored were the third-highest season total. In the Quinnipiac career record book, Noyes ranks first in slugging percentage (.704), second in home runs (38), fifth in hits (176), third in runs (134), fifth in RBI (130), and second in doubles (40). Peterson, a leftfielder/designated hitter, finished the season with a career-best 23-game hitting streak. During the streak, Peterson hit .427 (38-of-89) with 28 RBI. He had at least one hit in 28 of his final 29 games. For the season, Peterson led the team with 44 RBI, the sixth-highest total in school history. He was also second in home runs (8) and doubles (12), and third in hits (53). For his career, Peterson is first on the doubles list (41), fourth in hits (177), fifth in home runs (24), and seventh in RBI (115). A third baseman, Zangari is the career home run (39) and runs scored (144) leader. In 2000, Zangari had a team-high 21 multiple-hit games, hitting .363 (third on the team) with eight home runs and 38 RBI. With 196 career hits, Zangari finished third on the career list. He was second on the career RBI (143) and slugging percentage (.669) lists, and fifth in doubles (35). A first baseman, Boccaccio hit .330 with a career-best nine home runs and 39 RBI. For his career, Boccaccio finished with 107 hits (tied-25th), 21 home runs (7th) and 85 RBI (15th). Noyes, Zangari, Peterson, and Boccaccio - the Braves' number 2-3-4-5 hitters during the season - combined for 204 hits in 37 games. They hit a combined .358 with 46 doubles, 35 home runs, and 156 RBI. As a team, Quinnipiac hit .324, best in the Northeast Conference. On the mound, Pinto, a lefthander, had a team-best 6-1 record and a team-low 5.28 ERA. He struck out a team-high 66 batters in just 59.1 innings of work. Pinto finished his career with 154 strikeouts, tied for eighth all-time. Also a lefthander, Lynch was 3-4 with a 5.83 ERA in 2000. For his career, Lynch finished with a 17-13 record.
