SCHRAFFT'S FIELD, CHARLESTOWN MA - The Senators succesfully defended their BBL title for the first time ever with a hard-earned best-of-three series win over Division II rival, T&N. With their win, the Senators are now wearing their fifth league crown and have proven themselves to be among the best franchises ever to play in the Boston Bureacratic League. The playoffs began with a victory over the 8th seed, EPA and a semi-final 2-game sweep of the 6th seed, DEP. That set up a Division finals marquis match-up of #1 vs #2 - Senators vs MWRA. The two have had some momentous battles for years... This one would prove no different. The Senators came out a little over-confident in the first game, and MWRA made them pay by treating them to a 20-7 humbling. However, with their backs against the wall, the Senators roared back with an 18-15 cliff-hanger win in the second game, followed by a 17-5 thumping in the final game, which earned them their first Division title defense since the early 90's. From there, the Senators rolled into the League Finals to meet the Division II champions, T&N, who had won their division for the first time ever. They proved to be a fierce competitor throughout the 3-game series, as the two teams battled on the first day of the finals to a series split. The Senators won game #1, 14-8, and T&N staved off elimination and forced a game 3 with a 12-11 7th inning victory. That set the stage for the final game - and the Senators would not be denied. They jumped out to a 25-6 lead and held on to win 30-19, while fending off a T&N late-inning rally. The team started the year on a positive note by winning 10 straight games... and that momentum, while experiencing a few lags, was able to carry them through to another deserving championship. Congratulations to the Senators - 2001 BBL Champions!
