Senators Streak On... Record runs to 10-0 with win over Deer Island
Updated July 2, 2001

NEWTON, MA - Yet another game where the whole team got to pitch in... Led once again by their pitching (Mike Mozzer scattered 15 hits in a complete game, 5 earned run performance), the Senators put up a very strong defense and displayed the consistency for which their offense is known. The team from Deer Island, although they matched the Senators for an inning and a half, bent before the offensive onslaught and fell by a 24-7 count.

The 8-run outburst in the second inning was equaled in the third inning - and there was just no looking back. The Senators added another 5-spot in the 4th and clamped down the defense to mute the bats of the team from Winthrop.

Rich Levitt put up strong numbers for his third straight game, earning him the first back-to-back "Player of the Week" honors for the team. Doug Denny-Brown, Mike Ernst, Danny Pate, Don Voner and Mike Wegerbauer ALL turned in 3-hit performances as well.

Now it is off to the All-Star break, which will be a welcome respite before the stretch run. The 3 weeks after the break will see State House, East Boston and MWRA all trying to pin the first loss on the Senators. We'll see if the team is up to the task...

With the exception of July 18th (in East Boston), all of the remaining games this season will be held at Old Cold Springs field. Please check the "Directions" link on the team "Welcome Page" for easy-print instructions for arrival at the Senators' favorite home field.

The Senators have also entered their team into the annual "Take a Swing at Cancer" Softball Tournament, where they made it to the finals for tthe last two years.
