Miscellaneous: After cutting her teeth as scorekeeper/player for
the (losing) Norwood Inn team in RI for two years, Joanne wanted a
chance at the big time. "That experience convinced me without a
doubt to stay in the dugout where I belong. The Norwood Inn players
tricked me into signing the roster. After getting thrown out at
first base *every time* I got up to bat, I'd walk, dejected, back
to the dugout where my teammates would laugh at me and tell me I
ran like a girl." So Joanne signed a one-year deal as official
scorekeeper of the StayWell Sluggers. Her contract states that in
return for keeping the book for the Sluggers, Joanne will receive
one official team jersey, one profile on the team's Web site, and
one reenactment of last year's wet t-shirt contest. "I wanted to
see the team's training regimen in action," Joanne was heard to
remark after signing the contract.
