Having spent four years toiling for Team 4C of the Mulledy League, G. Fredey is
hoping to truly shine in the Bigs. "I thought I had hit bottom when I was
playing Double A ball, but 4C ball...you just can't get any lower," Fredey said.
"I'm proud I was given the chance to show my stuff in the MDC league. The
Sluggers have a long history of playing hard and playing for fun. But mostly,
they play for beer. That's what attracted me to this organization."
G. Fredey also signed a six-year, $8 million endorsement contract with Creamora,
the official non-dairy creamer of amateur softball. "You just can't find a more
quality non-dairy creamer on the market today," Fredey said. "I'm proud I was
given the chance to show my stuff for Creamora. They have a long history of
working hard and making coffee creamier for fun. But mostly, they work for
coffee. That's what attracted me to this organization."
"We're going to whip Geno into shape," Coach Tony said. "We've had enough of
these puffy-chested Mulledy-leaguers thinking they can run the show. Geno is
going to learn how we play in the big leagues, one way or the other. And I don't
think he realizes how much incentive we'll have for him to change. His wife,
Maura Fredey, Slugger #7, has promised to help us keep Gene in line," the coach
said.
"We have big plans for G. Fredey," Coach Tony continued. "We lost our starting
thirdbaseman unexpectedly during the off season. Geno has shown some interest in
the hot corner, so we're hoping to chain him to thirdbase in an attempt to
remove the word "rangy" from his title."
How about his bat? "We'll just keep telling him that the ball is Dennis Rodman.
Every time we've done that in batting practice, he's broken the glass in the
Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary," said Chris Cornell, red-shirted pitcher for the
Sluggers. "He really shows promise during BP. If we could get him to control his
legs on the field the way he controls his bat at the plate, he'd definitely make
the MDC All-Star team and the All-Vinciguerra team in '99."
"I'm just glad I can be here to show my all. I just want to be part of the team.
I'm going to work hard, and try my best, and the good lord willing, things will
work out," Fredey said. "When you play hard, good things happen. I just want to
make good things happen. Good things. That's what I want to make happen."
Fredey will seek psychiatric treatment during spring training.
