Biggest Fan: Her dog
Her two years' experience pitching fast-pitch at St. Bernards Catholic High
School showed that she has the power to put the fear of God in the opposing
team. Also, having Teresa on the roster is liking having a second coach on the
bench and on the field. She coached the much-hailed Ben's Auto Supply Spark
Plugs, her brother's Little League team, through their victorious '82-'83
season.
But the most powerful bargaining tool Murray brought to the table was that she
survived going to college with Nancy Kerrigan. Anyone who can put up with the
likes of Kerrigan can surely withstand the battles that take place on the
softball diamond.
This sealed her three-year deal with the Sluggers. Her contract also has a
fourth-year option provided she isn't wooed to another league without a salary
cap. There was one section of the contract that Murray didn't like, but
eventually agreed to. Like many big leaguers, Murray must refer to herself only
in the third person for the duration of her contract. After inking the contract,
Murray said, "It's a good deal. Teresa Murray thinks this is the kind of league
Teresa Murray belongs in. Teresa Murray wants to show that Teresa Murray can
play at the next level. And this contract show's StayWell's commitment to Teresa
Murray."
