Sluggers Rob State Street Bank of First Place 12-4 Sporting their new fangled duds with a snazzy logo, the Sluggers finished their road trip just the way it started: with an impressive win that featured great hitting and outstanding fielding. Offensive Line Why did Wheels edge the competition? Aside from hitting the only home run of the game, he now leads the team (or is tied for the lead) in the following offensive categories: runs, hits, RBI, triples, home runs, total bases, and slugging percentage. Tamara ãT-Stopä Stanley added to the offensive barrage with a double to lead off the third inning. Our Player of the Week, Lisa ãQ-Loä Chiuchiolo also stroked an impressive double in the Sluggers in the sixth. Carrying his flag in the extra-base hit parade, Will ãThe Naturalä Jamieson added a double of his own in the two-run fifth inning. Wendy ãWender Womanä Millard slammed an RBI single to start the Sluggers four-run sixth inning. Matt ãThe Masterä Ronzio quietly went 2 for 2 with a run and an RBI. He raised his average to .857, which leads the team. Enjoy this while you can. It wonât be long before opposing pitchers start intentionally walking him to take this automatic hit out of the Slugger lineup. Turning Two And Other Fancy Glove Work In the bottom of the second inning, with State Street looking to add to their 2-1 lead, the first batter singled smartly to right field. The following batter grounded hard to second, where >Tamara ãT-Stopä Stanley was ready with a quick, perfectly-placed flip to Steve ãWheelsä Baer, who bare-handed the catch and immediately fired to Craig ãTrump Cardä Trumm at first base. The inning ended two batters later, and the first of four straight State Street goose eggs was on the board. The fifth inning was nearly identical to the second. The same first batter in the inning hit a hard single to right. The same second batter grounded sharply to second. This time, Lisa ãQ-Loä Chiuchiolo was on the watch. She made a perfect toss to Steve ãWheelsä Baer, who again fired a bullet to Craig ãTrump Cardä Trumm to complete the double play. The Defensive Player of the Game is George ãThe Hit Manä Hart, who, thanks to a last-minute roster move, played seven innings of flawless third base. The box score has so many 5-3s that it looks like a height chart in China. New Award Category Will ãThe Naturalä Jamieson comes in at a close second in this category for his rocket toward the State Street bench that nearly killed third base coach, Craig ãDonât Call Me Wendellä Trumm. Again, fear was most definitely instilled in the State Streeters. The third base coach looked a little worried too. He nearly choked on some sunflower seeds. Player of the Week Returning to her natural position of second base, Chiuchiolo showed that she is most comfortable there. She figured in the record-setting second 4-6-3 double play of the day in the fifth. She also registered an unassisted putout in the sixth. Her fearless fielding is the benchmark by witch bench coach Dan ãDonât Call Me Grady Littleä Landesman, rates other Slugger infielders.
