Shriners Top Sluggers 15-7 The Sluggers took their only lead of the game in a four-run second inning, thanks to back-to-back RBI singles from Will ãThe Naturalä Jamieson and Lisa ãQ-Loä Chiuchiolo followed by a two-run opposite-field poke by Brandon ãWaiting Forä Guttman. The Shriners took off their fez, and came back in the top of the fourth with five runs to take a two-run lead. They shut down the Sluggers in the bottom of the fourth, and added another run to their lead in the top of the fifth. Isaac ãThe Tool Manä Taylor added a sac fly in the fifth inning to move the Sluggers back within two. Each team tacked on one more run in the sixth, ensuring a close-fought battle. Then came the seventh and final inning. ãThatâs when things slipped away from us,ä Coach Tony told reporters at the Red Hat. ãYouâve got to hand it to Stretch. He pitched a hell of a game, but they were able to get those key hits when they needed them.ä Two Slugger errors aided the Fez in opening things up in the top of the seventh. ãAdd in a few bad calls by an umpire with a union card,ä Skip added ãand it all adds up to a big inning for the bad guys.ä Defensive Player of the Game Offensive Player of the Game Letâs hope Guttmanâs homer wasnât his swan song with the Sluggers. Heâs temporarily leaving the game to pursue other interests. ãI just need to find myself,ä Guttman said in a post-game interview. ãIâm too in touch with my inner child. This is a kidsâ game. We get paid to come out here and play like kids. I need to see who Brandon Guttman really is. When I find out, Iâll probably return to the sport of softball, but I canât guarantee anything. Iâll keep you all posted.ä Player of the Week Ah yes, the solo shot. Having been fed up with his right-handed batting results, the switch hitter decided to go to his more natural left-handed batting. Why struggle with the right-handed batting in the first place? ãI have more power from the right side,ä Landesman said, ãbut I can place the ball better lefty.ä Tell that to the Shriners right fielder, who watched in awe as Landesman placed an 0-1 pitch on top of the Field 1 backstop with two outs in the sixth inning. The majestic, no-doubt-about-it long ball was Dingerâs first of the season. Reporters can finally brush the cobwebs off his old nickname. Speaking of nicknames, Landesman also reminded us of his only other nickname ãThree-Bagger Danä when he hit his team-leading third triple of the year in the third inning. Landesman also provided some much-needed fancy glove work in center field. His most notable catch came in the third inning when he added a pirouette to a leaping stab, robbing a Fez of a sure triple.
